Community Guidelines
Last updated November 1, 2026
VeChat is a place to talk with the people you care about and to share with a wider community. These guidelines say what is not allowed, so that everyone can use VeChat without being harmed, tricked or harassed. They are part of the Terms of Service, and they apply to everyone and to everything on VeChat: chats, groups, public rooms, voice rooms, calls, stories, feed posts, comments, profiles, usernames, pictures, stickers, games, files shared from Drive, live video, store listings and ads.
We apply the rules with the context in mind. A private chat between two friends is treated differently from a public post that anyone can see, and news, education, art and satire are treated differently from content that is meant to hurt. Some rules have no exceptions. Those are marked below.
Child safety
No exceptions. VeChat does not allow anything that sexually exploits or endangers a child. A child means anyone under 18.
- Do not create, send, post, store, ask for or link to sexual images or videos of a child, including drawings, cartoons and computer generated or edited images.
- Do not sexualise a child in any way, including in comments, captions, stickers or nicknames.
- Do not contact a child for a sexual purpose, ask a child for sexual images, send a child sexual material, or try to arrange to meet a child for a sexual purpose. This is grooming, and it is a crime.
- Do not threaten to share intimate images of anyone, child or adult, to get money, more images or anything else. This is sextortion, and it is a crime.
- Do not share images of child abuse to express outrage or to try to identify the people in them. Report them to us and to the police instead.
We remove this content, close the account for good, and report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children or to the police where the law requires or allows it. If a child is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number first.
Threats, violence and dangerous groups
- Do not threaten to hurt or kill a person or a group, and do not encourage others to do it.
- Do not praise, support, recruit for or raise money for terrorism, violent extremism, organised crime or human trafficking.
- Do not post content that celebrates a violent attack or its attackers.
- Do not share instructions for making weapons or explosives meant to hurt people.
Harassment and bullying
- Do not harass, bully, stalk, shame or intimidate anyone.
- Do not keep contacting someone who has blocked you or asked you to stop, including through a new account, a group or a friend's account.
- Do not share someone's private information without their permission, such as their home address, phone number, identity documents, bank details, private photos or live location.
- Do not organise others to pile on to a person, and do not use knocks, calls, winks or message effects to flood someone who does not want them.
- Do not screenshot or record a private chat or call in order to humiliate the people in it.
Hate
Do not attack, demean or call for the exclusion of people because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, serious illness, age or immigration status. This includes slurs, dehumanising comparisons, hateful symbols, and denying or praising atrocities. Criticising ideas, beliefs, governments and institutions is allowed. Attacking people for who they are is not.
Sexual content and nudity
- Do not post nudity, pornography or sexually explicit content anywhere other people can come across it: the feed, comments, stories, profile and cover photos, public rooms, voice rooms, live video, public Drive links, store listings and ads.
- Do not send sexual content to anyone who has not clearly asked for it, and never to anyone under 18.
- Do not share intimate or sexual images of a person without that person's consent, whether real or edited to look real.
- Do not offer or ask for sexual services, and do not use VeChat to advertise escorting or pornography.
- Links to adult websites are not allowed in feed posts or comments and are blocked automatically.
Breastfeeding, health information, and art or educational material are allowed when they are not sexually explicit.
Self harm and suicide
Do not encourage or instruct anyone to hurt themselves, and do not mock people who are struggling. Talking about your own experience and offering support to others is welcome. If you or someone you know is in danger, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line in your country straight away.
Scams, fraud and deception
- Do not trick people out of money, accounts, codes or personal information. This includes phishing links, fake prizes, fake investments, romance scams, fake jobs, fake support staff and fake charity appeals.
- Do not ask anyone for the sign-in code or password to their account, and do not share yours. VeChat staff never ask for them.
- Do not pretend to be another person, a business, a public figure or VeChat itself in a way that could mislead people. Fan and parody accounts must say clearly that they are not the real thing.
- Do not buy, sell or trade VeChat accounts, usernames or verification badges.
- Do not use fake accounts, bots or paid engagement to inflate followers, likes, views or reviews, or to make something look more popular than it is.
Illegal and regulated goods
Do not use VeChat to buy, sell or arrange the sale of illegal drugs, prescription medicines, weapons, ammunition, explosives, stolen or counterfeit goods, forged documents, hacked accounts or data, human organs, protected wildlife, or any service that is illegal where it is offered. Stores and ads have further rules in the Business Terms and the Ad Policy.
Spam and platform abuse
- Do not send bulk, repetitive or unwanted messages, buddy requests, group invitations, comments or calls.
- Do not add people to groups or rooms they have not agreed to join in order to advertise to them.
- Do not collect information about other people from VeChat by automated means, and do not build lists of users for marketing.
- Do not upload malware, link to it, or try to break into, overload or probe VeChat or anyone's account or device.
- Do not use a modified copy of the app, automate an account without our written permission, or try to get round a limit, a block, a suspension or an age restriction.
- Links to .onion addresses are not allowed in feed posts or comments, and are flagged for review when they appear in a chat.
False information that causes harm
Do not spread false information that is likely to cause real harm, such as fake medical advice that puts people in danger, false claims meant to stop people from voting, or invented stories meant to stir up violence against a person or a group. Do not share edited or computer generated media that makes a real person appear to say or do something they did not, where it could mislead or harm.
Other people's work
Share only what you have the right to share. See the Copyright and Trademark Policy for how owners can report copied work and how to answer a report.
Extra rules for public spaces
Feed posts, comments, public rooms, voice rooms, live video and anything shared with a public link can reach people who do not know you, including people as young as 13. Keep it suitable for a general audience. Graphic violence, gore and content that is disturbing for its own sake are not allowed in these places. Group owners and admins are expected to set rules for their groups, to remove content that breaks these guidelines, and not to run a group whose purpose breaks them.
Extra rules for younger people
You must be at least 13 to use VeChat. Some features are only for adults. If you are under 18, do not lie about your age to unlock them, and tell an adult you trust if anyone on VeChat makes you uncomfortable, asks you for pictures, asks to move the conversation somewhere else, or asks you to keep a secret. Adults must not ask people under 18 for personal details, pictures or a meeting. See the Safety Guide for Teens and Parents.
How to report
- Report a person from their profile or from the chat with them, and report a message, post, comment, story, room or store from its own menu.
- In a group you can also report a message to the group's admins.
- Block anyone you do not want to hear from. They are not told that you blocked them.
- You can also write to support@velovid.net, or use Contact support in the app.
Reports are confidential. We do not tell the person you reported who made the report. When you report a message from a chat, the reported messages are shown to our review team so that they can decide what to do.
What we do when the rules are broken
We look at what happened, how serious it is, whether it has happened before, and the risk to other people. Depending on that, we may:
- remove or hide the content, or limit who can see it;
- warn the account;
- limit a feature for a time, such as posting, going live or creating rooms;
- remove a verification badge, or stop a promotion or an ad;
- suspend the account for a time;
- close the account for good, and stop the person from opening new ones;
- report the matter to the police or another authority where there is a risk to someone's safety or the law requires it.
Repeated violations lead to stronger action, and an account that keeps having content removed is suspended. For the most serious harm, such as child sexual exploitation, credible threats to life, terrorism or sextortion, we close the account immediately.
Some checks are automatic. The app checks pictures and videos sent in chats for nudity on your device, feed posts and comments are checked against a list of adult websites, and .onion links are flagged. An automatic check on its own does not close an account: a person looks first. The Privacy Policy explains these checks.
If you disagree with a decision
When we remove your content or restrict your account, we tell you why wherever we can. You can appeal within six months through Contact support in the app, or by writing to support@velovid.net from the email address on your account. Tell us what the decision was and why you think it was wrong. Someone who did not make the first decision will review it and tell you the result. If you reported something and we did not act, you can ask for a second look in the same way.
Changes
We update these guidelines as VeChat and the risks on it change. If something is not listed here but clearly harms people or goes against the spirit of these rules, we may still act on it.
