Terms of Service
Last updated November 1, 2026
These Terms are the agreement between you and Velovid Software, an Egyptian one person company (شركة شخص واحد) registered in the Egyptian Commercial Register ("Velovid", "we", "us"), for your use of VeChat: the VeChat apps for Android and iPhone, VeChat for Mac, our websites at vechat.net, and every feature in them (together, "VeChat"). By creating an account or using VeChat you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use VeChat.
Some parts of VeChat have their own rules, which form part of this agreement: the Community Guidelines, the Paid Services Terms, the Copyright and Trademark Policy and, for companies, the Business Terms and the Ad Policy. If one of them conflicts with these Terms for the feature it covers, it takes priority for that feature. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information. It is not a contract, but please read it.
Please read sections 17 to 20 carefully. They limit our liability to you and say where and how disputes are resolved.
1. Who can use VeChat
- You must be at least 13 years old. If the law where you live sets a higher age for using a service like this without a parent's permission, you must be that age or have that permission.
- If you are under 18, or under the age of legal majority where you live, your parent or guardian must read and agree to these Terms for you.
- Some features are only for adults aged 18 or over, such as relationship status, buying paid features without a parent's involvement, and VeChat Business. Do not use them if you are younger, and do not give a false date of birth.
- You may not use VeChat if we have closed your account for breaking these Terms, if you have been convicted of a sexual offence against a child, or if the law of your country or ours forbids you from receiving the service.
- If you use VeChat on behalf of a company or other organisation, you confirm that you are allowed to accept these Terms for it.
2. Your account
- Give accurate information when you sign up, including your real date of birth, and keep your email address or phone number up to date so that you can recover your account.
- Keep your password, your sign-in codes and your backup codes secret. We will never ask you for them. Turn on two-step verification and App Lock if you want extra protection. We cannot recover an App Lock passcode.
- You are responsible for what happens through your account. Tell us straight away at support@velovid.net if you think someone else has got into it.
- One person, one personal account. Do not create an account for someone else, do not let others use yours, and do not buy, sell, rent or give away an account, a VeChat ID or a verification badge.
- Do not create a new account to get round a suspension or a block.
- Your VeChat ID must not impersonate anyone, infringe a trademark or be offensive. We may reclaim or change a VeChat ID that does, and we may reclaim one that has not been used for a long time.
- A verification badge shows that we confirmed something about an account. It is not our endorsement, and we can remove it if the account breaks our rules or no longer qualifies.
3. What VeChat is, and how it changes
VeChat lets you send messages and make calls, share stories and posts, play games, store files, find places, and discover and talk to businesses. We are always changing it. We may add, change, limit or remove features, and some features may be offered only in some countries, on some devices, or to some users as a test. If we remove a feature you paid for, the Paid Services Terms say what you are entitled to.
You need a compatible device and an internet connection, which you pay for. You must keep the app up to date. We may require you to install an update before you can continue, for security or because an old version no longer works with our servers. To protect everyone, VeChat may check that the app is the genuine one from an official store and that it has not been modified, and may refuse to run if it has.
VeChat is not an emergency service. It does not connect to emergency numbers such as 911, 112, 999 or 122, and you should not rely on it to reach the police, an ambulance or the fire service. Make sure you have another way to call for help.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of everything you create, send, post, upload or store on VeChat ("your content"). We do not claim it. To run VeChat we need your permission to handle it, and how much permission depends on who you share it with.
- Private content, meaning chats, groups you are in, calls and files in your Drive that you have not shared by link: you give us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, transmit, process and display it only as needed to deliver it to the people you chose, keep it available to you, keep VeChat safe and meet our legal duties.
- Public content, meaning feed posts, comments, your public profile, public rooms, live video, store listings, reviews, and anything you share with a public link: you also give us a worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to reproduce, adapt (for example resize, crop, caption or translate), publish, publicly display and distribute it within VeChat and on our websites, and to show it to the people the feature is designed to reach. We may show public content next to ads without paying you. We will ask you first before using your content in our own marketing outside VeChat.
These licences exist only so that we can operate, improve and protect VeChat. They end when you delete the content or your account, except that copies may remain for a limited time in backups, content that other people saved or shared again stays with them, and we may keep content where the law requires it or where it was reported, as the Privacy Policy explains.
You promise that you have the right to share your content, that it does not break these Terms or the law, and that it does not infringe anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights. You are responsible for your content and for the consequences of sharing it. We do not check everything that is shared on VeChat and we are not responsible for what other people share.
Keep your own copies of anything important. VeChat is not a backup service, and we are not responsible for content that is lost, deleted or unavailable.
5. Rules
You must follow the Community Guidelines. You also agree that you will not:
- use VeChat for anything unlawful, or to harm, deceive or exploit anyone;
- access VeChat with anything other than our official apps and websites, or use a modified copy of the app;
- use bots, scripts or other automation to create accounts, send messages, collect information or interact with VeChat, unless we have agreed in writing;
- copy, scrape or harvest content or information about users;
- reverse engineer, decompile or try to extract the source code of VeChat, except where the law gives you that right and it cannot be taken away;
- probe, scan or test our systems for weaknesses without our written permission, get round any security or access control, or interfere with how VeChat works, including by overloading it or sending malware;
- try to get into another person's account, or collect sign-in details from others;
- resell VeChat or any part of it, or use it to send bulk or commercial messages except through the business features we provide for that purpose;
- use VeChat's content or data to build or train an artificial intelligence model or a competing product;
- help or encourage anyone else to do any of these things.
If you find a security problem, please tell us privately at support@velovid.net and give us reasonable time to fix it before telling anyone else.
6. Moderation, enforcement and appeals
We may review content and accounts, on our own initiative or after a report or an automatic check, and we may act when we believe these Terms, the Community Guidelines or the law have been broken, or when it is needed to protect people. Depending on how serious it is, whether it has happened before and the risk to others, we may remove or hide content, limit who can see it, limit a feature, remove a verification badge, stop a promotion or an ad, suspend an account for a time, or close it for good. For the most serious harm, such as child sexual exploitation or a credible threat to life, we close the account at once and may report it to the authorities.
VeChat uses some automated checks, described in the Privacy Policy, to help find content that may break the rules. A decision to suspend or close an account for a rule violation is made or confirmed by a person.
When we remove your content or restrict your account, we tell you and give the reason, unless the law forbids it, we cannot reach you, or telling you would put someone at risk or help someone evade our rules. If you think we got it wrong, you can appeal within six months by using Contact support in the app or writing to support@velovid.net from the email address on your account. A person who was not involved in the first decision reviews the appeal, and we tell you the result. If you reported something and disagree with our decision not to act, you can ask for a review in the same way. A suspended account can still ask for a copy of its information and be deleted.
We may limit or stop handling reports or appeals from people who repeatedly send ones that are clearly unfounded.
7. Recommendations and ads
VeChat suggests posts, people, stores and places, and shows ads. The Privacy Policy explains the main things that decide what you are shown and the choices you have, including a feed that is not based on your activity and a switch for personalised ads. Ads and promoted posts are marked Sponsored. Advertisers are responsible for their ads. An ad on VeChat is not our recommendation of the advertiser or what it sells.
8. Paid features
Most of VeChat is free. Some things cost money, such as extra Drive storage, promoting a post and some cosmetic items. The Paid Services Terms apply to every purchase.
9. Drive and shared links
VeChat Drive gives you storage for your files, up to the limit of your plan. You are responsible for what you store and for who you give a link to. Anyone who has a share link can open the file without an account until you switch the link off. Do not use Drive to host or distribute material that breaks the Community Guidelines or infringes anyone's rights. We may disable a link or remove a file that does. If you go over your storage limit, for example because a paid plan ended, you cannot add more files until you are back under it.
10. Stores and businesses
Businesses can run a store, post updates, appear on the map and advertise on VeChat. When you order from, pay or deal with a business, your agreement is with that business and not with us. VeChat does not take payment for goods: you pay the seller directly, by the method the seller offers or on the seller's own website. We do not make, hold, check, deliver or guarantee what businesses sell, and we are not responsible for their products, prices, descriptions, delivery, refunds or conduct. Take the same care you would with any online seller. If a business breaks our rules, report it to us.
11. Maps, places and navigation
Maps, places, routes and travel times in VeChat come from open map data and from businesses and users, and they can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Use your own judgement. Obey traffic laws and road signs, do not handle your phone while driving, and do not rely on VeChat as your only guide where a mistake could put you in danger. Sharing your live location is your choice. Share it only with people you trust.
12. Games, stickers and other content
Games in VeChat are for entertainment. Scores, ranks, streaks, badges, frames, themes and similar items have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and can be changed or reset. Do not cheat or manipulate results. Stickers, sounds, tones, frames, filters and effects that we provide are licensed to you for personal use inside VeChat only. If you import or make a sticker pack, a tone or any other item, you are responsible for having the right to use it.
13. Services from other companies
Some features rely on services from other companies, such as OpenStreetMap and OpenFreeMap for maps, Google for sign-in, notifications, purchases and casting, and Apple for sign-in. Your use of those features may also be subject to those companies' terms. VeChat may also contain links to websites and services we do not control. We are not responsible for them, and following a link is at your own risk.
14. Our rights in VeChat
VeChat, including its software, design, name, mascot, stickers, sounds and all other content we provide, belongs to Velovid or to those who license it to us, and is protected by law. We give you a personal, worldwide, royalty-free, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence, which we can withdraw, to install and use VeChat as these Terms allow. Nothing else is granted to you. Open source software included in VeChat is licensed to you under its own licence, listed in Third Party Notices.
If you send us ideas or suggestions about VeChat, we may use them without restriction and without paying you.
15. Copyright
We respect other people's rights and expect you to do the same. The Copyright and Trademark Policy explains how to report content that infringes your rights and how to answer a report. We close the accounts of people who infringe repeatedly.
16. Ending this agreement
You can stop using VeChat at any time, and you can delete your account in Profile. Deletion is permanent. We may suspend or close your account, or stop providing all or part of VeChat to you, if you break these Terms or the Community Guidelines, if we are required to by law, if your account has been inactive for a long time, or if we stop offering the service. Where it is reasonable and safe to do so, we give you notice first. If we close VeChat altogether, we will give you reasonable notice so that you can save your content.
When this agreement ends, your right to use VeChat ends. Sections that by their nature should continue do continue, including sections 4 (for the limited period described there), 14, and 17 to 21.
17. No warranties
We work hard to keep VeChat running well and safely, but we provide it "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises, express or implied, that VeChat will be uninterrupted, secure, free of errors or viruses, or fit for a particular purpose, that messages will always be delivered or content always kept, or that information obtained through VeChat is accurate. We do not control and are not responsible for what users, businesses or other third parties do or say, on VeChat or anywhere else. Some laws do not allow certain warranties to be excluded, so some of this may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms takes away rights that the law says cannot be taken away.
18. Limit of our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Velovid and its owners, staff, partners and suppliers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for any loss of profits, income, data, goodwill or opportunity, arising from or connected with VeChat or these Terms, whatever the legal basis and even if we were told such loss was possible. This includes loss caused by the conduct or content of other users or third parties, by unauthorised access to your account, and by VeChat being unavailable.
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for all claims connected with VeChat or these Terms is limited to the greater of 100 US dollars and the amount you paid us for VeChat in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for deliberate wrongdoing, or the rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
19. Your responsibility to us
If someone brings a claim against us because of your content, your use of VeChat, or your breaking these Terms or the law, you agree to compensate us for the reasonable losses and costs that result, including reasonable legal fees, to the extent the law allows. This does not apply to consumers in countries where such a term is not permitted, or to the extent the claim was caused by our own fault.
20. Disputes and governing law
Most problems can be solved quickly by talking to us. Before starting any formal proceedings, you agree to write to support@velovid.net describing the problem and what you want, and to give us 60 days to try to resolve it with you. We will do the same if we have a dispute with you, using the email address on your account.
These Terms, and any dispute connected with them or with VeChat, are governed by the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the courts of Cairo, Egypt have exclusive jurisdiction. This does not take away any protection that the mandatory law of the country where you live gives you as a consumer, and if that law gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts, you keep it.
To the extent the law allows, you and we agree to bring claims only on an individual basis and not as part of a class, group or representative action, and any claim must be started within one year of the date it could first be brought.
21. General
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the documents they refer to are the whole agreement between you and us about VeChat and replace any earlier one.
- Changes to these Terms. We may change these Terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. If a change is significant we tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless the change is needed sooner for legal or security reasons or only adds a new feature. If you do not agree, you can delete your account before the change takes effect. If you keep using VeChat after that date, you accept the change.
- If part of these Terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we do not enforce a term, that is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
- You may not transfer your rights or duties under these Terms without our written consent. We may transfer ours to a company that takes over VeChat, and we will tell you if we do.
- These Terms give no rights to anyone other than you and us.
- Language. These Terms are written in English. If we provide a translation and it differs from the English version, the English version applies to the extent the law allows.
- Trade rules. You may not use VeChat if doing so would break export control or sanctions laws that apply to you or to us.
- Google Play. If you got the app from Google Play, your use of it is also subject to Google Play's terms. Google is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for VeChat or for supporting it.
22. If you live in Europe or the United Kingdom
- Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including your legal guarantee that digital services conform to the contract.
- Sections 17, 18 and 19 apply only as far as the law of your country allows. We remain liable for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, and for foreseeable damage caused by a breach of an obligation that is essential to this agreement.
- You may bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live, and the mandatory consumer protection law of that country applies to you. The one-year limit in section 20 does not apply to you, and the 60-day step before proceedings is a request, not a condition.
- Our point of contact for users and for authorities under the Digital Services Act is support@velovid.net. You can write to us in English.
- In addition to the appeal described in section 6, you may be entitled to take a dispute about a moderation decision to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body, and you can always go to court.
- The European Commission's information about resolving consumer disputes is available on its website. We are not obliged to take part in dispute resolution before a consumer arbitration board, and we do not.
