Cookies and Device Storage

This notice explains what VeChat stores on your device and in your browser. In short: we do not use advertising cookies, we do not use third party analytics, and nothing we store on your device is used to follow you across other apps or websites.
The VeChat app
The app does not use cookies. It keeps some information in the app's own private storage on your device so that it can work. All of it is needed for the app to function, which is why there is no cookie banner. It includes:
- Your sign-in session, so that you stay signed in. If you turn on App Lock, this is encrypted with your passcode.
- Your App Lock settings.
- Your preferences: theme, sounds, ringtones, muted chats, the VeChat ID you last signed in with if you asked us to remember it, and similar settings.
- A copy of messages you recently sent and messages waiting to be sent, so that chats open quickly and nothing is lost when you are offline.
- Things you chose to keep on this device only: saved messages, archived chats, saved posts, sticker packs you imported, your recent searches, and a delivery address you typed for an order.
- Your last known map position, so that the map opens where you were.
- Short-lived links to pictures and files that the app has already loaded.
- The settings the server last sent, such as which features are switched on.
- Security keys the app generates for protecting call set-up.
This information stays on your device. It is removed when you clear the app's data in your device settings or uninstall the app, and signing out removes your sign-in session. The exception is that anything you saved to your phone's own Downloads or gallery stays there.
Our websites
- vechat.net (the home page and these legal pages) sets no cookies. If you join the waiting list, we store the email address you type, when you joined, the type of browser you used and the page that referred you, so that we can tell you when VeChat is available. Write to support@velovid.net to be removed.
- Shared Drive links (app.vechat.net/d/...) set no cookies. We count how many times a link is opened.
- Invitation and profile links (vechat.net/u/...) set no cookies.
Other companies' servers
Some parts of the app and our websites load directly from another company's servers. That company receives your IP address and basic browser or device details when this happens, as with any internet request. We do not let them place advertising trackers.
- Google Fonts, for some of the lettering.
- OpenStreetMap and OpenFreeMap, when a map is displayed.
- Google, when you choose to sign in with Google or cast to a television, and for delivering notifications.
- Apple, when you choose to sign in with Apple.
Your choices
Because we use only storage that the app needs in order to work, there is nothing to opt out of. You can clear what is stored at any time by clearing the app's storage in your device settings. In a browser, you can clear site data in the browser's settings. Choices about ads are separate and are explained in the Privacy Policy.
Changes
If we ever start using cookies or similar technologies for analytics or advertising, we will update this notice first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
