Safety Guide for Teens and Parents
Last updated November 1, 2026
VeChat is for people aged 13 and over. This guide explains, in plain words, how to stay safe on VeChat and what is different for people under 18. It is a summary to help you. The rules themselves are in the Terms of Service, the Community Guidelines and the Privacy Policy.

Age rules
- You must be at least 13 to have a VeChat account. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up, and we do not create accounts for anyone younger.
- Give your real date of birth. It decides which protections apply to you.
- If we learn that someone under 13 has an account, we delete it.
- Anyone can tell us about an underage account at support@velovid.net.
What is different if you are 13 to 17
- Personalised ads are always off. You cannot switch them on.
- The relationship status feature is not available to you, and an adult cannot name you as their partner.
- You need a parent's or guardian's permission to buy anything.
- VeChat Business is for adults. You may not open a business account.
Everything else works the same as for adults, so the choices below matter. Other people on VeChat, including adults, can find your public profile and can send you a buddy request.
Staying safe: for teens
- Only accept buddy requests from people you know in real life. You can ignore or decline any request.
- Keep personal details out of your public profile and posts: your school, your address, your phone number and where you will be.
- Think before you share a photo. Anyone who receives it can save it or pass it on, even from a story that disappears after 24 hours.
- Never send a picture of yourself that you would not want your family or school to see, and never send one because someone is pressuring you. Asking anyone under 18 for sexual pictures is a crime.
- Share your live location only with family and close friends, and stop sharing when you no longer need it.
- If someone asks you to keep a secret, to move to another app, to send money or gift cards, or threatens to share something about you, stop replying. Do not pay and do not send more. Block them, report them, and tell an adult you trust. You will not be in trouble with us for asking for help.
- Never share your password or a sign-in code, not even with a friend. VeChat staff never ask for them.
- Feed posts and comments can be seen by everyone on VeChat. Stories are seen by your buddies only.
Tools you can use
- Block. From a person's profile or chat. They can no longer message or call you, and they are not told.
- Report. From a profile, a message, a post, a comment, a story or a group. Reports are confidential.
- Invisible mode. Sign in without showing that you are online.
- Birthday and friends list. Choose in Profile whether your buddies can see them.
- App Lock. Put a passcode, fingerprint or face check on VeChat so that nobody else can open it on your phone.
- Two-step verification. Adds a code from an authenticator app when you sign in, so that a stolen password is not enough.
- Devices. See every device signed in to your account and sign any of them out.
- Location and what you are playing. Both work only if you allow them, and you can switch them off at any time.
For parents and guardians
- Talk with your teen about who they chat with and what they share, and agree some rules together. Being open works better than checking in secret.
- Sit down together and go through Profile: the privacy switches, the blocked list, App Lock, two-step verification and the devices list.
- Make sure the date of birth on the account is correct, so that the under-18 protections apply.
- Use the parental controls on the phone itself. Android's Family Link lets you approve app installs and purchases, set screen time and see the apps in use.
- VeChat does not currently offer a linked parent account. We do not give a parent access to a teen's messages. If you are worried about your child's safety, write to support@velovid.net and we will explain what we can do.
- A parent or guardian can ask us to delete the account of a child under 13, or of an older child where the law gives the parent that right. Write to support@velovid.net. We will ask for information to confirm the relationship.
If something goes wrong
- If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number. VeChat cannot call emergency services for you.
- Report it in the app so that we can act on the account. Do not delete the chat before you report it, because the messages are the evidence.
- If someone has sexual pictures of a person under 18, or is threatening to share them, tell a trusted adult and report it to the police or to a child protection hotline in your country. Services such as Take It Down (takeitdown.ncmec.org) can help stop intimate images of under-18s from spreading online.
- If you are struggling or thinking about hurting yourself, please talk to someone you trust or contact a crisis line in your country. You are not alone.
